A black man was shot overnight, the 29-year-old Dijon Kizzee. The police shot him and claimed that he had a gun trained at them, but it was later found that it was a lump in his clothes and not actually a firearm. Small protests began at the site of his shooting, but the message was not picked up after Kizzee was very quickly demonized by local media.
Protests quickly subsided after solidarity protests were put down in the same city, as the heavily militarized police force cut down on the demonstrators.
