CHAZ The Capitol Hill Autonomous Zone

About CHAZ

Memorial to those who have died from police brutality

CHAZ (Capitol Hill Autonomous Zone) is a protest movement in Seattle that occupied the Capitol Hill Area around Cal Anderson Park and the Eastern Precinct. CHAZ is also known as the Capitol Hill Organized Protest (CHOP) It was founded on the 8th of June and has since turned into an area for People’s Assemblies and several cooperatives, food stations, and medical supplies. Many homeless come here to find food and shelter. Many memorials have been set up to honor the many, many black people unjustly murdered by police as well.

CHAZ in recent days has also faced lots of problems with external right-wing agitators and people who tried to stop the protests by saying that they are not about BLM or any other group involved around stopping police brutality. In response, it can be stated that occupying an area can force governments to accept more extreme compromises than what they would normally be willing to do.
